Speed Bumps

You know what speed bumps are don't you? Those diabolically designed pieces of asphalt or concrete in parking lots, placed there to slow you down and tear off the underside of your car while causing massive wheel alignment problems. FUN!

Life has those too. Things that happen to slow you down and tear away at your life's focus. Like things other people say (discouraging stuff) combined with our own "stinkin thinkin"that can lead to major wheel alignment problems in our own lives. We start thinking negatively about our goals and then (God forbid) even talking negatively, and before you know it we're off track. In a phrase, "Derailed and distracted." It's amazing - as people we give up so easily. It's average.

So what do we do? Let me share something that really helped me. Not new news, but something the positive thinking, success coach, mentor types all talk about, that we (as average rut dwellers) don't do: Use those speed bumps to slow and and rethink your goals. THEN - GET A BUDDY! An accountability partner if you will. Some one to help you stay on track.
Just recently I scheduled a meeting with a friend and his wife, (we had dinner) and in our conversation we agreed to call one another at a certain time each week and report how things are going and what we are doing to reach certain goals. The frequency is only once a week for 10-20 minutes and the duration - 1 year (the commitment part). The focus: to encourage one another and create action!

I'll tell ya. Just thinking about it is inspiring. And our talks yield great bits of info that spur us on together (even increase our goals!) I feel better than average just thinking about it!

Call it mentoring, partnership, friendship, accountability, whatever you want. Find someone of like precious faith, get around an agreed upon time and goal, AND GROW! It's really awe inspiring. I'm really looking forward to the results.

Try it! Nobody's an island unto themselves. People who just "go it alone", usually end up majoring in negativity and thumb twiddling. As the song says, "You need a friend. . . " See y'all tomorrow.
